💥🌶️Punchy Pomelo & Avocado Salad🥑🥜Like any good dish, this one hits all the notes: savoury, sweet, spicy, crunchy, cool, and creamy! If you’re in the northern hemisphere and your winter palette is craving something bright and juicy, this will really hit the spot!😛💦Pomelos are a fascinating fruit, the largest in the citrus family. Scientifically known as Citrus maxima or Citrus grandis, they are native to Southeast Asia but are now grown in many parts of the world, including the United States, especially in Florida and California. They are known for their sweet, mild flavour and large size; they can grow up to 10-12 inches in diameter and weigh between 2 to 4 pounds or more!The flavour of pomelos is often described as a mild, less tangy version of grapefruit. While it has the same refreshing citrus taste, pomelos are generally sweeter and less bitter, making them more palatable for people who find grapefruit too sour or bitter.From a health perspective, pomelos are loaded with vitamin C, which is essential for immune function, skin health, and protecting cells from damage. Just one pomelo can provide more than 100% of the daily recommended intake of vitamin C. They are rich in fibre, antioxidants, and very hydrating due to their high water content. You can of course enjoy pomelos on their own, just like any citrus, but combining it with creamy avocado, spicy chilies, crunchy salty peanuts, and fresh mint takes this fruit to a whole other level! 🧣Here is a practical and eco-friendly way of cleaning your woollen garments and household items this winter - with snow!❄️🧶Wool’s unique fibres are coated in lanolin, a waxy substance that helps repel dirt, bacteria, and odours. This means wool doesn’t require frequent washing like synthetic fabrics. When wool is exposed to snow, the cold temperature and moisture work together to lift dirt and odours from the fibres, leaving your wool fresh and renewed without the need for soap and water, or the energy required to power a washing machine. 🌨️In regions with cold winters, people have used snow to clean wool for generations. It’s a testament to the incredible properties of wool and its relationship with the natural world. By adopting this method, you’re protecting the integrity of your precious wool fibre products, while connecting to nature, the season, and a more sustainable way of living🌎We still have a month of winter ahead, so the next time it snows, skip the laundry and head outside with your wool sweaters, hats, scarves, rugs, and blankets. Let nature do the cleaning—it’s as easy as laying it down and letting the snow work its magic!✨Snow Wash Method: ❄️Make sure the snow is fresh and free of dirt or debris. Powdery snow works the best.❄️Place your wool items on top of the snow, ensuring the are evenly spread out. ❄️Pat the wool lightly into the snow and let it sit until the garment is fully covered (if it is not snowing, flip the garment over after 15 minutes or so).❄️Once done, shake thoroughly to remove any clinging snow. ❄️Place your wool items in a warm place to dry completely.
