💪I feel stronger today than I did before a major back injury nearly took my physical life as I knew it. This is the story of how I got here, and why I finally turned the camera on myself.After a spinal injury in 2018, I ended up in the hardest period of my life - physically, mentally, all of it. Many of you have followed me for years and never knew. I kept it private while I healed, and I’m ready now to share more.The message from my body was clear: REST. I had such a hard time slowing down, but I knew it was the only path forward. I cooked and ate well, I rested, I slept. I could barely walk around my own house - anything physical was off the table for years. I healed through nourishing food, rest, and nervous system care. No surgery. No shortcuts. Naturally. Completely.By 2025 I was living pain-free (!!!) and really starting to enjoy my life again; walking daily, cycling, swimming, dancing, Pilates. I added resistance training and slowly rebuilt my body from the inside out. Now I feel stronger than ever - even stronger than before the injury. It feels like a miracle, but I know it’s the power of consistency.The 11-push up challenge is simple: 11 push-ups a day (or at least attempting!), no excuses. It feels vulnerable to put this still-becoming version of myself out there. I’ve always preferred the sparkling end result over the messy process, but maybe this inspires someone else to start where they are, instead of waiting for the perfect moment (that moment never comes - there is only right now!). Just begin, trust the momentum, and watch in awe as the smallest habits add up over time.I turned the camera on myself without planning it, without overthinking, and without letting my internal dialogue feed me enough reasons to stop. That is how I intend to move forward: showing up consistently, even on the days when it feels hard - especially those days. Because beyond the physical strength I’m building, this is about the relationship I’m cultivating with myself and my body. 🌱Wild Leek, Pea, and Parmigiano Soup🫛A simple, smooth and sophisticated soup that celebrates Spring, blending garlick-y wild leeks, sweet green peas, with an umami boost of parmigiano cheese. 🌱Wild leeks or ramps, are found throughout hardwood forests from late March through May. Look for broad, smooth, lance-shaped leaves growing low to the ground in clusters. Crush a leaf between your fingers - it should smell unmistakably of wild garlic. No smell? Keep movin’!🫡 🧄Like garlic and onions, ramps contain sulfur-containing compounds that support detoxification pathways, cardiovascular health, and immune function. These compounds are also responsible for their pungent aroma and potential antimicrobial effects. They are an excellent source of antioxidants; the deep green leaves are rich in chlorophyll, carotenoids, and flavonoids that help protect cells from oxidative stress, especially welcome after a long winter of lower fresh-green intake. 🌸It’s here! Magnolia season🥲 My heart swelllllls standing underneath one of these trees, the creamy, sweet scent billowing from each blossom. I wanted to capture the fragrance and flavour from the delicate petals of magnolia, which are surprisingly ginger-y, and fantastic made into an oxymel🫚🍯The word “oxymel” comes from Greek: oxys (acid) + meli (honey). It is an herbal preparation using these two ingredients, plus plant material. In this case, I’m using the fresh magnolia flowers, which have been used in traditional medicine for centuries, particularly in Chinese and Japanese systems. Compounds in magnolia, such as honokiol and magnolol, have been found to reduce inflammation. This can potentially benefit conditions like arthritis or other inflammatory disorders. Some research shows that magnolia also has anti-anxiety and sedative effects💆🏼‍♀️Most magnolia species are edible (Magnolia grandiflora, M. stellata, M. × soulangeana are commonly used), but forage with care, and pick blossoms from trees away from dirt or gravel roads, or that you suspect may have been sprayed. They are best harvested just as they are stating to open up - avoid petals that are browning and limp.
