DIY Incense🕯️🌲🪵 I have loved burning incense since the first time I walked into a hippie market at 16 and smelled the nag champa. I find that lighting something on fire and filling the air with sacred smoke, marks a moment, and changes the energy🙏Incense has been part of human ritual for thousands of years—burned in temples, healing spaces, and homes from Egypt to China to the Indigenous cultures of the Americas. For so many peoples, aromatic smoke wasn’t just fragrance; it was a bridge between the seen and unseen, a way to sanctify a moment, honour the ancestors, or call in clarity. When we make and burn incense today, we’re tapping into that same continuum of reverence and transformation.🕯️But as sacred as the practice is, the quality of what we burn genuinely matters. A lot of commercial incense on the market is made with synthetic fragrances, chemical binders, and even combustion accelerants that can release irritants into the air—especially when burned in enclosed spaces. If you’ve ever felt a headache, scratchy throat, or heavy air after lighting a stick, you’re likely reacting to these additives rather than the plants themselves.Homemade incense is the opposite experience. When you work directly with resins, woods, herbs, and natural binders, you’re choosing ingredients that are both energetically pure and kinder to your lungs. You know exactly what’s in your blend—no mystery chemicals, no artificial scents, just whole plant materials that have been used safely for centuries. The result is a cleaner burn, a truer aroma, and a ritual that feels aligned with your values and your body🫶I’ve started making my own incense and I’m in love with both the process and the results! Happy December, loves!❄️I felt a real shift this morning, waking up to below-zero temps and ice starting to form alone the shorelines. We are diving into the deep end of the year, this cycle of growth completing, and the great winter sleep ahead. I don’t know about you, but I feel ready🧣The pull of blankets piled high, soft snow and ice, indoor fires, sauna, steaming mugs of broth or cacao, candles burning, and total silence, is palpable. Our next grow Gathering is coming up and it’s going to be a very “unique” experience! Drumroll please…we’re doing it naked! Okay, okay I know some of you are probably wondering if I’ve completely lost it (just my clothes, I assure you) so stay with me🤍If you’re paying attention, you’ll probably agree that the world feels noisy about bodies again. There is judgment flying around, pressures building, and I know so many of you are feeling it. I’ve been on a lifelong journey of radical self acceptance, and I’ve had to lean in extra hard in 2025, as the cultural narrative has doubled-down on the way women “should” look. And yes, I know that trends come and go to pray on our insecurities (or create them) just so we buy something to alleviate the pain of not belonging, but it’s hard not to question my appearance as my body changes and ages naturally. The antidote to this, for me, is acceptance of who I am, just as I am, and being with my one-and-only body in its most natural state: naked. It may seem counterintuitive to de-robe in the name of being more comfortable with oneself, but I find it much edgier in my mind than in practice. Kind of like ripping off a bandaid. On the other side is a feeling of freedom and relief, since removing the performative and often sexual expectations that nudity brings, I am able to just drop into myself, my most sacred vessel, and see it for what it is; an astounding collection of bone and flesh just doing its best. Nothing to hide, nothing to fix. If this feels exciting and fun, I hope you’ll be with us next week. If this feels absolutely crazy and unlike anything you’ve ever done before, then I REALLY hope you’ll join. Get curious about your resistance - there is so much to learn from the things we’re afraid of, and pure gold on the other side of our fear. (Continued in the caption💗)
