How to make healthy choices every day

The My New Roots Recipe App

You guys. It’s here.

After countless requests I’m bringing you, dear readers, the My New Roots recipe app! And now over 100 of your favourite (and my favourite!) recipes are in one easy place with features that help you browse, organize, and cook the dishes you love the most. I’ve made it possible to create shopping lists for ingredients, keep a collection of favourites, and filter recipes to suit your preferences: vegan, gluten-free, grain-free, raw – or skip right to the desserts!

It’s been a really fun process going through the last nine years of recipes and stories from the blog. Along with the amazing memories, I’ve rediscovered so many incredible recipes that have fallen off my of my radar! I’ve been sitting on a gold mine! I guess one of the ironies of constantly developing new material is that I often forget to make my old favourites. I am excited to dig up these tried, tested, and true gems, and put them in the app for you to enjoy as well.

The feature that I am really excited about however, is the menus! Since I typically publish just one recipe at a time here on the blog, creating an entire menu with multiple dishes would be a tad overwhelming for a single post. The app has inspired me to change that and create multiple- course menus for all occasions.

The first menu I’ve made is for the holiday season, and includes five brand-new, and crazy-delicious dishes to impress your best guests. On the menu: Wild Rice and Shiitake Soup, Grilled Radicchio with Golden Beet and Pomegranate Salsa, Shoe String Sweet Potato Fries with Miso Tahini Gravy, Vegan Shepherd’s Pie, and Spiced Date Pomegranate Cupcakes. These recipes are designed to be cooked together to create a complete holiday dinner, but can easily be enjoyed separately all year ‘round. They will not be found on the blog, but included in the app exclusively, and you can get them today!

There are over 100 recipes in the app, and that number will grow with each update, both with recipes from the blog and menus I make exclusively for the app. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do, and if you have any suggestions of how I can improve it, features to add, or even ideas for recipes, just write to apps(at)mynewroots.org. Your feedback is so important to me and I want to make this app the best it can be for you.

Happy cooking, friends. I really hope that my app will inspire you to get into the kitchen and  create even more delicious, nourishing food for yourself and the people you love. Thank you for your ongoing support and encouraging to take the leap to make this dream a reality!
You can download the app here!

Unfortunately no, not at this time. The app is currently only for iPhones and we’re planning an iPad optimized version (it will work on an iPad though).

What iPhone can I use?
The app works with iPhone 4S or newer, with iOS 9.0 or higher installed.

Is there an iPad app?
The app works on an iPad but it doesn’t have an iPad specific design yet but we’re working on it…

Do I have to pay for the app?
Yes, the app costs $4.99

Will I also have to pay for the blog?
No, the My New Roots blog will always be free.

Feel free to ask questions or send ideas to apps(at)mynewroots.org

  • Hi Sara, will it be possible to download the app from Europe? At the moment looks like it’s not available here. Thanks ??

    • Hello! The MNR app is no longer active unfortunately but make sure you’re signed up for the MNR newsletter as we have exciting plans for the year ahead–stay tuned! 🙂

  • I used to have this app, I bought it and loved it! But is is no longer available in the Canadian app store, so I’ve lost it after resetting my phone. Any plans to bring it back to Canada? I miss it!

    • Hi Kim,

Thanks for note! I’m glad you were enjoying the app. Unfortunately, Apple changed their iOs system so the app no longer works. I am so sorry about this – but it’s just beyond our control! Soooo annoying :{ If anything changes, we’ll definitely make a big announcement!

      best,
      Sarah B

  • Does ANYONE know how to view the cute little video that was at the first opening of the app? I was trying to watch but my son distracted me before I could see it. ? LOVE My New Roots so much. It’s completely changing my life. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️?

  • Hi Sarah,
I downloaded your app a couple of month ago and am using it regularly. It is fabulous. A visual delight and very handy to use. Thanks Linda

  • I just got your app and am so happy with it. It’s perfect when you head to the supo after work and don’t have a list. So many beautiful recipes to choose from as well

  • sadly only came across this now would have been great for Christmas but i am still going to try it out this weekend, click here if you want to be inspired by an amazing South African restaurant

  • I was so excited to get this app as I love your blog and book! I’ve only tried the gingerbread so far and wanted to make sure you knew that the recipe is off. Both the cookie and frosting steps are out of order and the spelt weight is missing a 0. It says 35 grams but should be 350; I googled the recipe when the dough turned out like soup.

Thank you for the inspiration and creative recipes. I’m always excited to see what you’ll do next. Have a wonderful holiday!

    • to add to the post above …after purchasing the app and exploring it a bit, I wanted to compliment you on such a thoughtful app. So many ways to explore and find your recipes, the layout is easy to use, and I love the swipe feature in each recipe to navigate between the description, ingredients and directions. Well done!

  • Totally worth the price due to great recipes and shopping list to boot. But where are the menus? I can’t find them.

  • Congrats on the wonderful app, Sarah! I downloaded it as soon as I read your post, and am so impressed by the clean, beautiful interface. The new recipes look fantastic, and seeing all my favorites from the blog feels like visiting old friends.

Thanks for all the love and light you send out into the world! It’s a better place because of you. 🙂

  • Hi the app looks fabulous on your advertisement. I don’t own a smartphone yet! When I clicked on the link discovered that contrary to your website it costs to access. So I will stay looking at your website and have your lovely book also to enjoy.
    Thanks

  • Hi Sarah! In the Superfood nut butter cups the direction steps seem to be out of order. Thought you’d like to know.

  • This menu looks fantastic ! Is it not available to people (like me) who do not have an iPhone or smartphones or iPads ? I wish it was ! I LOVE your recipes and a couple are already part of my great classics 🙂

    • How it is greedy to try to make a living? Sorry to say, but writing a cookbook doesn’t make someone rich, even when that cookbook has been as successful as Sarah’s has been. This is Sarah’s job. Clearly, many people are excited about having another way of connecting with Sarah’s recipes. I don’t know Sarah at all, beyond enjoying her work, but comments like this just seem so mean-spirited and misdirected. Is she supposed to produce all of this work for us for free? Plus, it costs 5 dollars. Frankly, that is a steal for the amount of work she has probably put into it.

  • Congratulations Sarah!
Beautiful app, beautiful design, but best of all, beautiful recipes!!
Just letting you know of a couple of things I caught that need to be tweaked in the next update:
    – The steps on the Beet, Raspberry and Vanilla Smoothie Bowl are not in the right order
    – The number of people the recipes serve needs to be added

    Congrats again! So proud!

  • Yaaaaay!! The preview looks awesome and I am SO glad to hear that there will be an iPad version as I only have an Android phone but an iPad, phew! Can’t wait, thank you so much!

  • How exciting! How disappointing…
It said smartphone but not my smartphone.
I will never get an iphone. They cost too much so you have made the richer happier. My only computer at home which is most of the time is my smart un iphone. Sigh. I shall hope for a brighter future. Hey, it could happen without an iphone. LOL

  • Sarah, I’m so excited about this app.. I feel like I just bought a second cookbook!.. I’ve enjoyed your cookbook so much!.. It is so well designed, with the shopping list integrated already!.. Clever!

  • If I pay for the phone version, do I also have to pay for the iPad version when it comes out? (Because if so, I may just wait until the iPad version comes out)
